The YES! Always campaign is focused on educating college students about consent. Sexual assault is a major problem across the nation with the running statistic that 1 in 5 college-aged women experience sexual assault every year. We define sexual assault is any kind of unwanted sexual advance or unwanted sexual interaction. Sexual assault is traumatic, but it should not be embarrassing for the victim. We want people to feel powerful in their own bodies with their own sexuality. Research suggests that the largest issue that contributes to sexual assault is a misunderstanding of consent. The lack of knowledge on what consent means as well as a lack of confidence in understanding one’s own sexuality and demanding consent contributes to sexual assault and rape. Comprehensive education is the only way we will bring about a change and it starts with sex positivity and consent. Consent never ruined the moment.
